The history of the Entertainer*

The Entertainer was established twenty five years ago in Amersham by Gary and Catherine Grant and has grown to become the UK's largest independent toy retailer.

The Entertainer has always aimed to offer a wide range of toys and games for all ages at competitive prices. With a committed team of managers and well-trained staff, The Entertainer aims to offer outstanding service to its customers and fulfil its mission of being mad about toys!

The Entertainers commitments

The Entertainer is a 'social toy business' which means that we aim to conduct our business based on ethical values and through engaging wider stakeholders. Customers, employees, children, local communities, charities and suppliers all play an important part in our business. For example, consideration of children’s needs, attitudes and welfare is central to our thinking. We aim to provide a child-friendly atmosphere in our shops, and we are continually finding new ways to listen to young people. As a social toy business we enthusiastically support local communities and social projects.

In 2005 we launched The Entertainer Charity Wristband Partnership which has enabled us to raise funds for 15 charity partners. The 'home' of The Entertainer is Amersham, Bucks and we have developed strong relationships with the local community in the Amersham area through supporting local schools and civil organisations. This work was recognised through Chiltern District Council's Volunteering Award presented to The Entertainer in 2003.

The Entertainer makes charitable donations through The Grant Foundation which has a mission to inspire hope in the lives of children and their families. To fulfil this mission grants are given to social projects which promote the healthy development of children and their families. Gary Grant, founder of The Entertainer, also plays an active part in the Toy Trust which fundraises within the toy industry for a wider range of children’s causes.
