The history of Evans

1930's

Evans Outsize was founded by a manufacturer called Jack Green and then later run by his son-in-law Cyril Spencer as a limited company.

1970's

Evans became part of the Burton Group in 1971-1972, a public company for the first time in 40 years. In 1974 Evans mail order was started.

1980's

In 1983 Lingerie and Leisure wear ranged where introduced. In 1988 Evan's, now recognised as the market leader for women's wear above size 14 opened it's flagship store at Marble Arch.

1990's

By 1993 Evan's accounted for more than 30% of the UK's 20-32 size market. In 1994 Good House Keeping and Prima Magazines were introduced to help promote the brand.

1997 saw the launch of SeVen, a more fashion led label for the younger customers. 1997 also saw Evans as the first out of the Arcadia group to sell on the internet and a second Flagship store was opened in Regent Street.

In 1998 Evans had 160 stores nationwide and launched a new range 1647, exclusively designed for them by Helen Teague and partner Dawn French.

2000's

In 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 Evan's won the Prima High St. Awards for best 16+ Fashion Retailer.

2006 see Evan's with over 20 style consultants across the country, dedicated to helping customers feel more confident about fashion.
