Despite Dixons no longer being on the High Street and no longer having having any high street shops in the UK, we have decided to leave it on due to high customer demand. The brand name is still strong to many people looking for a bargain electrical product and the continuing increase of online shopping with such reputable names, will mean it will continue to be so.

Dixons Goes Digital 2006

On April 5, 2006, Dixons announced that they were removing the brand from the UK high street and would only be using the Currys brand, branded as Currys.digital. This was said to signal a shift to more internet based selling and to "reduce confusion". Dixons stores would be retained in Ireland, and other locations such as airports, whilst also retaining its website. In Ireland, the Dixons brand was axed in August 2008, with the stores rebranded Currys (not Currys.digital, however, and with a new Currys logo) and to open a Dixons.ie internet site however, maintaining the brand.

More on Dixons

The Dixons brand was re-launched as a pure-play online retailer. Its high street stores were converted to the Currys brand, creating a 550-strong chain.

The announcement

We are pleased to announce an exciting change to all Dixons stores that will benefit each of our customers by offering them a wider choice of products and services than ever before. All our 200 High Street Stores across the UK will join forces with Currys, our sister company and be re-branded Currys Digital.
